Admissions

Five steps, one honest conversation, no surprises about money.

Applications for the February 2027 intake close on 30 September 2026. Late applications are considered while places remain — call us before you assume the answer is no.

How to apply

From first enquiry to first field week.

  1. Check the minimum requirements

Bachelor degrees: a National Senior Certificate with an APS of 28 or above, including Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Diplomas: NSC with an APS of 22, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy. Higher certificate: NSC with an APS of 18.

  2. Send the form and documents

Use the online form on this site or email study@hextech.ac. Attach your ID, your latest results and, if you have studied before, an academic record.

  3. Have the placement conversation

Within five working days an academic advisor calls you: 20 minutes about subjects, language of instruction, residence and money. This is where most wrong choices are avoided.

  4. Receive a conditional or firm offer

Offers are issued from June. A conditional offer becomes firm when your final school results arrive. You have 14 days to accept and pay the R1 500 registration deposit.

  5. Register and get kitted out

Registration runs in the last week of January. You will need boots, a hat, a laptop (a loan laptop is available), and a signed field-safety induction.

Frequently asked

Questions we are asked every week.

Do I need Mathematics to study here?

For the bachelor degrees, yes: Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) with Physical Sciences. For diplomas and the higher certificate, Mathematical Literacy is accepted, and we run a bridging module in the first semester.

Can I study part-time or while working on a farm?

The diplomas and the higher certificate run on a two-day-a-week block-release schedule designed for people in employment. Bachelor degrees are full-time only, because of the field weeks.

In which language will I be taught?

You choose. Every module is offered in English and Afrikaans, with the same lecturer, the same notes and the same assessment standard. You may switch language between years.

Is there student accommodation?

Yes, 180 beds in two residences within walking distance of the campus, plus a list of accredited private houses in The Ridge and Dalsig. Residence is optional.

What happens if I do not get the marks?

We will offer you a place in the higher certificate instead, which carries credit recognition into the diplomas. About a third of our diploma students start this way.

Can I transfer credits from another institution?

Yes, up to 50% of a qualification may be credited through recognition of prior learning. Send your academic record with the application and the programme coordinator will assess it.
